We are considering creating a new wizard-position. If a player were
interested in creating just a small area, say, adding a new building
into Anshelm, we’d create a new character for that person with limited
wizard capabilities. They could still log on their player characters
and play ... just not at the same time.

It’s hard work learning to code; it’s hard work describing an area; it’s
hard work building searches, NPCs, and gear. That’s why being a full-time
wiz just isn’t for everyone. This is a compromise.

What’s the downside? Well, your wiz character will be somewhat ham-stringed.
You’ll only be able to read files in a few directories; you’ll only be
able to write to your own directory; you won’t be able to patch player
files or edit files in the game. Clearly these are security measures. The
unintended consequence is that it will make learning how to code a bit more
challenging. For example, if I want to build a pair of leggings that randomly
kick people in the room, I can just go look at the Lion Shield in Candera.
This limited wiz-character will be able to walk to the Lion Shield, but
not see the code for it. Whichever wizard is helping you will have to open
the file, and copy & paste the relevant code for you to see; or, you’ll have
to program it from scratch. That’s just life.

So, if you’re interested or just sort-of interested, take a look at the
survey/ questionnaire linked below and let us know. Before you take it
though, think about what you might like to build. One of the questions asks
for a few paragraphs describing what you’d like to build for a first project.
