I really liked dwarf as both a barb and a fighter.  The stat boosts and racial resists worked well with those classes in 5.0 and 6.0.  I haven’t played a character in 7.0 to test dwarf with all the new class skills, but if I were to create either a barb or fighter, I’d go dwarf again.  The biggest problem was finding high-ac, low-enc gear for the dwarf fighter.  If I were to make a fighter now, the hardest decision I’d have is what wep to specialize in . . .

i cant decided between dwarf or half-ogre, see i was told that dwarf has the best resistances out of all the races and good stats too but then half-ogre has high physical resistance and also has a greater chance to do more damage or something?

For my physical characters I always went Half-Ogre.

For my magic users I went half-elf to start then evalved to full elf.

I did have a half-orc once...not bad, but not great either.

Seemed to work for me.

Ok, here’s what I have so far. Please keep in mind that these players are all various levels and some who were aristos could have pumped their resistances (Ok, Malal threw it all off for Half-Elves). Maybe somebody could make a newbie for each race as a guinea pig? Now that i actually pay attention to it, it is basically Race with a couple exceptions. But I will continue to compile this info.

Not really a lot of work at all. All you need is 6 newbies each a different race. But I dont think class has much to do with anything unless you’re a necro and your resistance to disease gets a lil bump. If you look at everything else up there, all races seem to be right in line, the only diff is the Half-Elf Cleric, who was Malal and undoubtedly has numerous ASkills in various resistances.

I actually had a lot of fun playing my gnome monk Cpoon, but then I wizzed and Cpoon went down in typo history :(

What if there were quests that “changed” or customized your race.  You could be a fire elf that had more fire resistances or a drow that that was more resistent to death magic and disease.  Or you could be “enlightened” and be more resistant to psychic attacks.  Maybe a stone or earth ogre or dwarf and be more resistant to physical.  Hmmm....what are some other ones.  Ice could be more resistant to cold.  Now of course with the benefits would come negatives.  These could also affect stats, like being enlightened gives you more mana, psychic resistance, but more vulnerable to physical.  Also could make raising int and wis easier.  You could become a “leader” of your race that would allow for easier charisma raises...not sure besides druids who the heck would want that.
I guess you could be ethereal or mystic for pure magic resistance.

Not really a well thought out idea..it jsut came to me looking at this thread.  Oh and the quests....they should be damn hard, not available every boot and random.  This should be on of those hard to attain things.  Oh well.

Not stackable but if you wanted to change you would have to do an entirely different hard as hell quest.  And, if you did it too soon the “powers” that embed might not be happy with you.  Or if you wanted to change from fire to ice resistance I am sure that the monsters that you would fight would be the worste possible for your resistence type.

Hard too code....seems like something right up your alley Ratboy.  You need to live up to your coder expertise and potential.  Snicker
