Barbarian Guide

A guide for Newbies/Midbies Barbs

ps please see also Barbarian Skills, Barbarian, and Classes

Races:
For barb, the most damage you will receive will likely be physical (see Damage Types), as well as your most important stats being constitution and strength (see Stats), thus most barbarians are usually Half-Ogre or Half-Orc. (see races)

When you first log on, the most important things are:

Weapons:
All of a Barbs damage comes mainly from his weapons, his strength as well as how often he can hit. (This is why Weapon Skills are very important to a barb) It is best for you to get weapons that are as high of WC as you can find for your strength level, see Weapon Guilds

For those who lack money or want to play for a short while or save money, you can easily find weapons in the realms:

~All weapons here will be 1-handed and are meant for newbies till midbies (lvl 6-12)~
Daggers:
-curved daggers/daggers/knives: from vesla’s sanctuary 3s,2w (usually 2 spawn there every now and then)

Swords:
-scimitars *DANGEROUS*: from Island, go all north and see if there is any equipment lying around pick up the scimitars.

(Dangerous due to very strong orcs roaming around, please do not try even going to the island unless you are fast at typing/moving and are confident enough that you’ll stay alive)

Clubs:
Mace *DANGEROUS*: same as the above

Armour:

Sized Large:
If you followed the normal trends and made a Half-Ogre or Half-Orc, you will most probably need large leather armour, which can be found easily, see Armour Guilds.

For those who want to save money, you can find leather equipment throughout the realms:

-A leather jacket spawns every once and while near the center of Vesla
-A quartet of Smoke House laborers in Vesla wear leather jackets of various sizes
-This gang of illegal miners in Indel have leather hoods, sleeves and mask in medium and large sizes

------------------------------------------------------------
It is best if you can reinforce your armour (see Barbarian skills),

If you can reinforce:
go to the gryphons located in the forest southeastern of vent (see v-ent) to use their skins to reinforce your armor (1 skin should work for your jacket, while one should work for your sleeves/leggings/helm, for your boots and gloves use cow skins).  These skins are very large, so they are perfect for resizing armour to whatever size you need.

If you can’t reinforce:
it would be better if you can get a higher level person (who doesn’t mind of course) to help you reinforce your armour, but at lower levels this isn’t too important yet.

see Light Sources

Jerkies:
After that its best if you get jerkies (which you should’ve gotten after you got gryphon skins and reinforced your armors.  gryphons are very large and produce a lot of jerky!)
If you can’t get jerkies yet, it is best to ask a barb who is free (preferably an idling one/one who isn’t playing) to make you some.
Alternatively you can continue to eat animal corpses. (such as viper corpses from the viper den in exedoria)

It is best to keep a bag or pack with you to keep your jerkies and alcohol in (always carry more then 10 drinks on you if you plan on raging often to avoid running back and forth while fighting). You can also get canteens (each of which holds 5 drinks), they can be found in a store, somewhere in Anshelm.

The best way to maximize Barbs as an exp maker would be to use animal corpses and alcohol to keep rage up (to continue giving you added offense), as well as to keep you healed. However this would most probably result you in being quite (if not extremely) poor. After you get the skill berzerk, though, you will most probably have to spend a huge amount of money on alcohol just to stay alive while zerking.

Collect/Smear Blood
Note that the stronger the NPC, the better the blood collected from their corpse will be.  If you plan on taking a tough fight, you might benefit from bringing some strong blood and smearing it right before the fight.

Zerking:
it is best to keep on you at least a good supply of alcohol/jerkies, as well as other healing items, that can be used even if you are totally full or drunk so that you might be able to survive a tough opponent.

Juice
Try to always keep a high strength bottle of juiced alcohol on you whenever possible for those tough fights, or when a zerk turns out bad. It might just save your life.
