Illusion


 

Illusionists are one of the five schools of spellcasting available to the mage class in moral decay.  They tend to be better equipped for offense than defense, and thus are best played more like an invoker (mostly offense, little defense) than an abjurer (a “battle mage” with mainly defensive spells at his or her disposal).  Illusionists eventually may learn all the invoker spells, but they suffer an extra-mana-per-spell penalty to cast them.  Thus, Illusionists get by through creativity, deception and ledgerdemain, preferring to fool their opponents into injuring themselves or their friends (a great feautre of the shadow blast spell, one main weapons in the illusionist arsenal), rather than merely “blasting” them as would an invoker.  They are also able to cause their opponents to believe that beings from the netherworld are attacking them with the phantasmal killer spell.

It has been said that illusionists are essentially “thief mages,” with spells such as invisibility and hide casting that give them the ability to be very effective player killers, should the need arise.  On the lighter side, illusionists can have fun with their powers, causing voices to come out of nowhere (the ventriloquism spell), projecting animated replicas of common objects (the create illusion spell), or even fooling their friends into thinking they’ve just died (the illusion death spell).
