Mazdra

Mazdra is a cruel and capricious goddess thought by many to actually be insane.  She delights in setting her worshippers at each other’s throats, so that only the strongest, cruelest, and most devious will survive to worship her.  Mazdra appears often in the Realm to either test her worshippers, “help” them when needed, or harm her enemies.  She secretly wants to be worshipped even by those in the above world, and so she tries to impress them with her power.

Mazdra is malicious in her dealings, and coldly vicious in a fight.  She enjoys causing death, destruction, and painful torture. Mazdra tests her worshippers, particularly her priests on a regular basis, and those that fail, her magic twists and perverts into driders.  Rather than kill the failures, she allows them to live with their failure, and their constant pain is a reminder to other drow not to fail Mazdra.

Mazdra’s Avatar appears as a giant black widow spider, but prefers to change into a human-sized, exquisitely beautiful drow female.  She can also combine the forms, appearing as a giant black spider with a coldly beautiful drow female head.  Mazdra will also often watch the happenings of the world by entering a spider which might be present; in which case the spider is surrounded by a black-ishpurple aura.  If no spider is present, one made of shadow will appear where Mazdra wishes to watch.

Priestess of Mazdra are the rulers, police, judges, juries, and executioners of drow society.  They wield power on a daily basis and so in a manner keeping with the cruel and capricious nature of Mazdra herself.  All drow who do not worship Mazdra are to be converted or destroyed by her priestesses.
