Origin

Moral Decay was started as an experiment by Exedore and Brapnor. Other wizards that helped in the coding of areas were Powers, Coreal, Faramir, Gwenever, and Breeti. Exedore had aquired a base 3.0 mudlib in April of 1992, and the group set to work on coding. Both Brapnor and Exedore were much more interested in learning to code a mudlib than actually getting it up and running. They got to work on the mud…

As for the Name, ‘Moral Decay’, it arose rather accidentially. Coreal and Exedore were arguing one night on the issue of Player Killing. Coreal was deathly against it, and Exedore, deathly for it. There were too many reasons against outlawing player killing, and only a few for it. Coreal stated that if player killing was allowed, the whole mud would sink into chaos a few weeks after it was opened. Exedore disagreed, but as a tension-breaken remarked, “When the world falls into complete moral decay, don’t be so old that you can’t enjoy it..,” and the name stuck.

After a month of work, the mud was opened for official playtesters. Some more wizards were aquired, the two who stayed and are of much importance were Molnar and Kimo.

Playtesting lasted for about two weeks and then the mud was opened officially. There was advertising on other muds that had existed at the time; but most of those have since faded away. A large crowd of players was not expected, as the creators were interesting keeping the Mud focused on the ideals behind Moral Decay’s creation, instead of changing to keep the greatest amount of players happy in the beginning. There was a long term goal, and deviating from it would have put Moral Decay in jeopardy of becoming just like the muds that have to this day become just names in History.
