Kobold in MD usually refers to the Canderan Kobold. He is a sneaky NPC who is intent on mass genocide through poison, for whatever reason. He is tough to kill because of his ability to remain invisible to the naked eye.
It has been rumored that a few well trained individuals are able to spot him.

Note:
For this reason, it is best to be careful when moving through Candera, and also know that if one bottle was poisoned its likely the Kobold got to the rest of them too.
Also, a cleric is able to remove poisons from not only Players but from food and drink as well.
