Drow
Also known as dark elves, drow are for the most part a depraved and evil subterranean offshoot of elves. They have jet-black skin and pale hair, with white being common. They tend to be smaller and thinner than other sorts of elves, and their eyes are usually a vivid red.
Most drow worship Mazdra, the spider goddess. Female drow favor the cleric class; males favor thief or fighter. Their society is usually matriarchal, with the female drow holding the majority of power. Male drow are usually entrusted with the relatively unimportant jobs of swordplay and some sorcery.
Despite their chaotic and evil nature, the society of the drow is rigidly structured and divided. Social strata and classifications are virtually immutable. A drow can advance in his or her caste, but cannot advance beyond it. The evil nature of the drow is most evident when one seeks advancement - and advancement typically made through deception, treachary, or death.
In combat, drow prefer to ambush and retreat. Only when forced to will drow fight in melee. But in melee, drow are graceful and deadly, using complex maneuvers that are beautiful to observe. Technically, drow experience a drop in fighting ability when in the sunlight, but we’ll change that to when they are away from the shiram, the natural radiation of the Underdark.
